• First several weeks:
Some symptoms may begin to improve, but thyroid replacement is not an instant stimulant. Levothyroxine may take approximately 4 to 6 weeks to reach its full effect at a given dose.
• About 6 to 8 weeks:
For most adults with primary hypothyroidism, follow-up laboratory testing is reviewed after starting or changing Levothyroxine. The dose may be continued or adjusted based on results, symptoms, adherence, and tolerability.
• Following dose adjustments:
Improvement may occur gradually over several weeks or months. Hair, skin, bowel, menstrual, cholesterol, and cognitive changes may take longer than early changes in energy or temperature tolerance.
• Long-term therapy:
Many patients require lifelong treatment. Once the dose is stable, periodic laboratory testing and clinical follow-up remain necessary because medication needs can change over time.
